Guide to Choosing Funeral Flowers
Funeral Flowers: A Thoughtful Guide to Choosing the Right Tribute
Choosing funeral flowers can feel overwhelming, especially during a difficult time. One of the most common questions we hear is:
“How much should I spend on funeral flowers?”
The answer depends on your relationship to the person being honored, your budget, and the type of tribute you’d like to send. At Drinkwater Flowers & Design, we believe funeral flowers should be meaningful, beautiful, and comforting—not simply large for the sake of being large.
A Modern Approach to Sympathy Flowers
Years ago, funeral flowers often consisted of large formal standing sprays, shaped arrangements, and oversized tributes. While those styles still have their place, many families today prefer lush, garden-inspired arrangements that can be enjoyed long after the service.
In fact, one of the compliments we hear most often is that our arrangements are taken home by family and friends more than any other flowers at the service. We love creating pieces that continue to bring comfort, beauty, and remembrance in the days and weeks that follow.
Recommended Budgets
$150-$200
For those wishing to express sympathy on a smaller budget, we typically recommend:
- Blooming plants
- European dish gardens
- Blooming Orchids Plants
These lasting gifts provide comfort long after fresh flowers have faded and are especially appropriate for acquaintances, neighbors, coworkers, or distant relatives.
$200–$350
A beautiful choice for:
- Friends
- Colleagues
- Extended family
- Community members
At this price point, we can create a lovely fresh floral arrangement in a vase that makes a meaningful statement while remaining appropriate and elegant.
$300–$450
A thoughtful range for:
- Close friends
- Immediate family members
- Beloved neighbors
- Special relationships
These arrangements offer greater size, premium blooms, and a fuller presentation suitable for honoring someone with whom you shared a close connection or an arrangement coming from a group.
$450 and Above
For modest family flowers displayed near the casket, urn, or memorial area, we generally recommend beginning around $450 per piece.
Families may choose:
- One larger arrangement or urn wreath
- Matching arrangements on either side of the urn or casket
- Smaller Pedestal arrangements
- Memorial displays designed specifically for the service
$600–$1,000+
For larger floral tributes, including:
- Casket sprays
- Standing sprays
- Larger pedestal arrangements
- Custom memorial installations
Pricing varies based on flower selection, size, seasonality, and overall design. We are happy to create something meaningful within your budget.
